M is a woman in her 20’s…
I heard that the SEX+STL community was a good, welcoming one, and I caught a glimpse of that warmth at the Topless Tea Party.
It’s hard to find a group of women who are truly, truly kind, but everyone was. Really. The veterans were happy to include the new women, like me, and there was zero pressure to remove any clothing — only if you were up to it.
I was curious how it’d be to hang out with a room full of bare breasts, but it was a complete non-issue. If anything, I really enjoyed being around people who weren’t hiding themselves.
Taking off my own shirt, however, was a little harder. I’m very timid but felt it important to try going topless, though, so I gave it a shot. The new experience left me a bit uncomfortable, but that was on a personal level — nothing to do with the others.
The crafts were especially great in that moment, since I could focus on something other than my completely new experience. They were also a nice way to interact with others in a manner that didn’t heavily rely on conversation, which can be hard for, um, some of us.
Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. The tea flowed, the treats abounded, and the laughter rang. I’d go again for sure. Being comfortable in my skin would come with time and practice, but there really doesn’t seem to be a better group to do that with.
